Huddersfield Town 4-1 Bolton Wanderers
On my (Adrian) way up north to work on a trade show, the opportunity to take in a neutral game presented itself. With Harrogate my base until the middle of the week, this game was about the best on offer.
Two clubs with proud histories, which sadly they will probably never ever repeat.
Bolton had a renaissance in the early 21st century and spent many years in the Premier League upsetting the biggest in the land, Huddersfield Town have generally fluctuated through 2nd and 3rd tier level, last time tasting top flight status in the early 1970’s.
I have been to this stadium on two previous occasions and always seen goals, eleven to be exact.
However with both sides, shall we say making sticky starts to their league campaign, I was not particularly hopeful of a goal feast in this Championship game.
So what do I know!
My pre conception was all wrong, on a balmy day in West Yorkshire this turned out to be a thriller and a game to remember particularly if you were a home supporter.
Nevertheless it was Bolton that started the brighter and took the lead in just 2 minutes.
Liam Feeney taking advantage of some ball watching to latch onto a routine cross field ball from Moxey to fire home past the on loan Steer. Advantage Bolton! Bolton looked the more assured side going forward, Mark Davies was impressive in midfield and Wellington Silva was causing problems on the left, cutting in with his right foot. On one such occasion Ward was forced to head off the line.
But Bolton clearly have issues up front, the veteran Heskey lasted just 11 minutes before limping off and substitute Madine struggled to make any impression.
At the other end, Town almost equalised after a left wing cross was sliced on to his cross bar by the wonderfully named defender Prince.
Bolton looked gettable, Scannell headed wide but the leveller came in first half of stoppage time.
A corner on the Huddersfield right was taken short and Emyr Huws powered home a low left footed shot.
The second half will be one Neil Lennon and co will want to forget, and positives from the first half were completely forgotten as Town dominated.
Town had penalty claims turned down.
Huws shot just wide before Carayol scored with a right foot shot from the left hand side of the penalty area.
Carayol then turned provider, teasing over a cross from the left which was headed home by Huws.
And a fourth for Huddersfield courtesy of defender Joel Lynch, catching Wilson in possession.
Bolton lost shape and discipline, Danns was booked for persistent dissent and central defender Derik Oseda sent off for two yellow card offences. He was lucky not to receive his marching orders earlier.
Fresh legs almost provided the Terriers with a fifth but Wells was denied by the legs of Ben Amos in the Wanderers goal.
So it's now 16 goals in my 3 visits to this stadium a remarkable statistic.
For Huddersfield, two wins in a week will really boost confidence. After the sales of three of their best players during the transfer window, the new players are starting to fit in.
For Bolton, a day to forget, they are a club in transition as they try to rebuild but on the evidence of today they have much work to do and could be looking anxiously over their shoulder at a relegation battle.
A deserved 4-1 win for Chris Powell’s Huddersfield Town.

Huddersfield Town 2-3 Leicester City

The Galpharm Stadium is home to Huddersfield Town FC (The Terriers). From a distance, the ground looked like a rollercoaster from Alton Towers because of the white roof structure of all four sides. The ground is set in a scenic area with lots of trees behind the Antich stand and a river behind the Riverside Stand. The Pink Link stand which homes the away supporters is a single tier stand unlike the North Stand which is two tiered with a temporary stand in front of it. City’s first two goals were scored by Matty Fryatt and Huddersfield got another two goals back by Roberts and On-Loan striker Dickinson until Lloyd Dyer sent Leicester City supporters home with 3-points with an unexpected chip over the Huddersfield keeper.
